Hillary Clinton's Polls Bear Good and Bad News
The good news first: Monica Lewinsky is boosting Hillary's poll numbers! Yes, according to a new Siena College Research Institute poll, Senator Clinton's decision to stand by her man in the aftermath of the Lewinsky scandal is seen by 56% of voters as been a sign of strength. In fact, according to the polls, 62% of women and 50% of men regarded her stance favorably. In the same poll whose sample was 1,200 registered voters, three quarters of those polled said Hillary Clinton would be an independent-minded President, while just a mere 16% thought she would rely all too much on her husband for advice.
In the same poll, which was conducted by telephone, two-thirds believe that the United States is ready for a female president. Indeed, it has Clinton marginally leading all the other Presidential candidates. She leads Obama--who trails her by the least margin within the Democratic party--45%-12%. The other democratic presidential contenders have single-digit numbers.
Across party lines, John McCain trails Clinton by one percentage point, with Clinton banking 45% compared to McCain's 44%. This should be good news for the Clinton camp. And indeed it is. Clinton's campaign spokeman said of the polls, "We are very gratified that polls show Hillary winning for president, but will take nothing for granted and work hard for every vote,". And for a good reason they are gratified. America is now, more than ever, ready for a female president.
Then the bad news, New York Senator, Hillary R. Clinton, is losing popularity in...in New York?
